Chelation Therapy (Pronounced Key-lay-shun)

Chelation therapy is a treatment in which a substance called EDTA is infused into a vein in the arm for a period of about three hours in the doctor’s office. EDTA chelation therapy has been used by physicians for more than 50 years with an impressive safety record. This therapy has been used to treat the following:

Cardiovascular diseases
Diabetic vascular disease
Decreased mental functioning
Auto immune diseases
Degenerative diseases
Intermittent Claudication

The term chelation therapy comes from the Greek word Chele, which means “to claw”. Like a crab’s claw, EDTA grabs or binds a molecule of a metal and carries it through the bloodstream and is excreted in the urine.

Origin of Chelation Therapy

EDTA was first synthesized in the late 1930's. It was used in the 1940's to treat workers in battery factories who had lead poisoning. In the 1950's, Dr. Norman Clarke, Sr, then director of research at Providence Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, used EDTA to treat patients with lead poisoning. He then found out that lead-poisoned patients who also had angina chest pain due to blocked heart arteries) reported less chest pain. In addition, the patients noted improved memory, better vision, hearing and smell and had increased energy. Since that time, thousands of doctors have chelated millions of patients with heart disease and other conditions with EDTA.

How Does It work

No one knows for certain how EDTA works but the leading theory today is that of free radical elimination.
EDTA chelatin therapy can help the body fight against disease/ EDTA removes heavy metals such as iron, lead, arsenic aluminium, mercury, beryllium, antimony etc from the body. These heavy metals are used by the body to make free radicals which in turn cause a lot of damage to cells.

EDTA removes only “free” metal atoms from the body, leaving the bound species intact. By removing the free radical burden from the body, a wide range of positive effects are then obtained including improvements in the conditions listed above.
